E-City to add seven more outlets by end of 2013
UAE: The electronics retailer E-City has confirmed plans to add seven new outlets in the local market by the end of next year.
They will add to the three stores in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah that opened in 2009.
“The [expansion] move would propel E-City to one of the leading retail chains in the UAE,” said Mueez Rahman, chief operating officer of E-City General Trading.
While its existing outlets are in prime malls, the additional ones will have locations in key neighbourhoods.
There will also be an extension into online shopping options.
E-City is the electronics retail arm of the Albatha Retail and Home Products Group.
The parent company, Albatha Holding, meanwhile operates more than 22 companies in sectors as diversified as automotive, pharmaceuticals, contracting, manufacturing, consumer goods, real estate and education.
Strong growth
According to the company, the three existing E-City outlets managed to register strong growth despite opening during the downturn.
This in turn has set the foundation for the next phase of expansion.
“E-City has capitalised on the growing demand in mass market technology products such as tablets, smartphones, LED TVs, cameras, gaming and related products,” said Rahman. He added that the intention is to be seen as a ‘technology convenience retail chain’.
In the next five years, the retailer intends to take the concept to the other Gulf markets.
