COMMENT: 5G-The Future of the network

With continuously increasing mobile use, mobile connections are soaring into the billions, as the demand for mobile data is outweighing the traditional calls and texts that dominated the airways half a decade ago. On average, a new mobile generation has appeared every 10th year since the first 1G system was introduced back in 1981 by Nordic Mobile Telephone.

GSMA director general resigns

Anne Bouverot, GSMA director general, has decided to resign from her position.

She will become the chairwoman and CEO of Morpho, a vendor or security and industry solutions.

The GSMA has already started a search process to find a new director general. The organisation expects to introduce the new director shortly.

Qatar: Standing out in the telecoms sector

The telecommunications industry in Qatar is one of the healthiest in the region. Qatar’s population more than doubled from around 0.98 million in 2006 to 2.1 million in 2014, providing a new consumer base to operators, according to the analyst firm BuddeComm.

Following ITU recommendations and listening to the demands of the sector, the country published the Qatar National Broadband Network (QNBN) that aimed to connect all individuals and businesses to a fibre broadband network by 2015.

Qatar's Ooredoo expects revenue to fall in 2015

DUBAI, March 19 (Reuters) - Qatar's Ooredoo forecasts its revenue will fall by as much as 3 percent in 2015 and core earnings will drop by a similar margin, a presentation by the telecommunications operator on its website shows.

Ooredoo, which has expanded its operations into about 15 territories in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, is considered among the best-run of the Gulf operators, having avoided the excessive prices which its regional rivals paid to build up foreign portfolios.
