Facebook Q4 revenue growth slows, spending soars

Facebook beat analysts' expectations as it saw fourth-quarter revenue growth of 49%, stemming largely from mobile advertising, Reuters reported.

But, while the social media company surpassed Wall Street's projections for both profit and sales, spending rose faster (87%) than revenue and despite the enviable growth figures, the revenue increase was the lowest since the start of 2013.

Shares were down 2.6% in after-hours trading.

Cisco Connect returns to UAE

Cisco announced today that its flagship technology summit Cisco Connect 2015 UAE will be held from 18-19 February at Atlantis the Palm Hotel, in Dubai.

Themed, "Connecting the Unconnected", the event is intended as an opportunity for delegates to "network, share knowledge, and drive the technology agenda for the region's public and private sectors", Cisco said in a statement.

ADSIC and Oracle team up to train Emirati graduates

Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC) is set to launch a program with Oracle, which will train Emirati graduates in IT skills.

The Workforce Development Programme will focus on delivering industry-relevant IT skills training in business applications, database and Java development, with the aim of supporting the UAE Government's nationalisation policies, and to provide more diverse opportunities for Emiratis in the workplace.

TechAccess, Extreme Networks tie-up

TechAccess, a regional value-added IT distributor has signed an agreement with Extreme Networks for the Middle East.

Under the accord, TechAccess will offer its channel partners in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan the vendor's entire networking products and solutions.


Paladion joins with HP on cyber-sec managed services summit

Information risk management specialist Paladion Networks today announced it will be holding a summit on ICT security managed services, in collaboration with HP Enterprise Security at InterContinental Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 9 February.

The SOC Conference will cover approaches to the changing threat landscape, including emerging technologies such as big data analytics.

The conference is aimed at chief information security officers (CISOs), technology risk and compliance professionals, and IT security managers, Paladion said.

TechAccess granted rights for Unify in KSA

Specialist regional VAD TechAccess has signed a new partnership deal with Unify, which will allow the distributor to offer channel partners the vendor's solutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Symantec brings Veritas back to life

Symantec has announced that it will resurrect the Veritas name for its spun off information management company.

The security specialist announced that it would split into two businesses, a security company and a data management company, in October last year. The data management operation has now announced that it will be called Veritas Technologies Corporation.

The Veritas name was last used in 2005, by Veritas Software Corporation, which was acquired by Symantec. The company has also created a new logo for Veritas.

LINK Development and Microsoft showcase CityNext Initiative

Technology solution provider LINK Development and Microsoft Gulf have jointly held the ‘CityNext Initiative' to showcase the latest solutions for government in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The showcase was held to demonstrate technologies and solutions that can help government to improve operations and move to smart government. The event was attended by Eng. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Director of Fujairah e-Government.

Airtel names new CEO for Africa

Indian telecoms group Bharti Airtel has appointed Christian de Faria as CEO of Airtel Africa, effective 1 January, 2014.

De Faria will join Airtel Africa on September 16, 2013. He will be based in Nairobi and will report to Manoj Kohli, who currently heads up the African unit as part of his role as CEO of international operations.
